I’ll admit—I used to rank Saw II near the middle of the series. Too many characters, felt messy compared to the tightness of the first film.

Darren Lynn Bousman took what made the first film great—moral dilemmas—and turned it into a tense, real-time nightmare. The nerve gas house, the “twist” with the video feed, and Tobin Bell’s expanded role as Jigsaw… it’s the sequel that actually built the franchise. saw 2 youtube

Most people write off Saw II as just “more traps, more blood.” But rewatching it 20 years later? It’s a masterclass in low-budget psychological horror.

But man… I was wrong.

The way it plays with time (no spoilers) is genius. And Xavier? One of the most underrated horror villains of the 2000s.
