The phrase (Portuguese for "the pope's exorcist") refers primarily to Father Gabriele Amorth (1925–2016), a famous Italian Catholic priest and chief exorcist of the Diocese of Rome. He performed over 60,000 exorcisms and wrote several books on the topic.
