They are expected to study engineering or medicine, respect elders, speak politely, and eventually marry a “suitable girl.” Emotional intimacy with parents rarely includes sexuality. When a mother asks, “Beta, do you have a girlfriend?” the answer is almost always a rehearsed “No, Mummy, I’m focused on my career.”
