This paper explores the history, structure, core functional areas, environmental elements, and practical applications of DMBOK2, highlighting its role in transforming data from a byproduct of operations into a trusted enterprise asset. 1. Introduction Data is often called the “new oil,” but like oil, raw data is of little value without refinement, governance, and infrastructure. Organizations struggle with siloed data, poor quality, security breaches, and compliance failures. The Data Management Association (DAMA) International developed the DMBOK to address these challenges by providing a consensus-based, vendor-agnostic framework of best practices.
